March 6 Conference Tournament Daily: Navy loses!

Wednesday Review

Atlantic Sun Review:
Scores:
#2 Jacksonville 65, #7 Mercer 57
#1 Belmont 73, #8 Campbell 66

Biggest Story:
Campbell pushed Belmont to the very end, which was a bit of a surprise but I guess these conference tournament games never are easy.

Patriot League Review:
Scores:
#1 American 62, #8 Holy Cross 60
#7 Bucknell 87, #2 Navy 86 3OT
#3 Colgate 76, #6 Lafayette 74
#5 Army 64, #4 Lehigh 61 OT

Biggest Story: I remember saying that both American and Navy would get tested tonight in yesterday's blog. Navy went down in three overtimes to Bucknell. Bucknell knows how to win in the postseason and apparently they haven't forgotten how. Watch out for them to perhaps win the whole thing now.

Sun Belt Review:
Scores:
#8 New Orleans 65, #9 Denver 60
#4 Middle Tennessee 74, #13 Louisiana-Monroe 69
#12 Troy 70, #5 Louisiana Lafayette 60
#6 North Texas 85, #11 Arkansas State 63
#7 Florida Atlantic 91, #10 Florida International 64

Biggest Story: I actually saw Troy play in person one time this season. The Trojans are a lot better than the Sun Belt's 12th best team and they proved that on Wednesday. Now the rest of the conference better watch out, because they do have some shooters.

Thursday Preview

Atlantic Sun:
#3 Stetson vs. #6 Gardner Webb
#4 ETSU vs. #5 Lipscomb

Big South:
#2 Winthrop vs. #3 High Point
#1 UNC Asheville vs. #4 Liberty

Missouri Valley:
#8 Indiana State vs. #9 Wichita State
#7 Missouri State vs. #10 Evansville

Northeast:
#8 Montmouth at #1 Robert Morris
#7 Long Island at #2 Wagner
#6 Central Connecticut State at #3 Sacred Heart
#5 Quinnipac at #4 Mount Saint Mary's

Best Games on Thursday:
The Big South Tournament should be very good on Thursday. Kenny George and UNC Asheville take on Liberty. Everyone wants to see a UNC-Asheville-Winthrop title game but High Point and Liberty are trying to ruin the party.

Conference Tournament Winners So Far (Automatic Bid Winners):
(1) Ivy League: Cornell

March 5: Conference Tournament Daily Breakdown

I will update this every day about the conference tournaments. On Tuesday (my birthday actually) three conference tournaments began; the Ohio Valley, Horizon, and the Big South. Let's break down what happened....

Tuesday Review

Big South Tournament:
Scores:

#2 Winthrop 76, #7 Radford 45
#3 High Point 59, #6 Coastal Carolina 56
#1 UNC Asheville 87, #8 Charleston Southern 63
#4 Liberty 103, #5 VMI 88

Biggest Story:
All four top seeds advance to Thursday's semifinals. Both matchups should be very interesting, but of course everyone wants to see Kenny George against Winthrop in the title game.

Horizon Tournament:
Scores:
#3 Wright State 60, #10 Detroit 37
#6 Valparaiso 75, #7 Green Bay 67
#4 Illinois-Chicago 70, #9 Youngstown State 59
#8 Loyola 57, #5 Wisconsin-Milwaukee 51

Biggest Story: Usually Wisconsin-Milwaukee is tough to not knock off in the Horizon but this year a quick loss to Loyola has them going home quickly.

Ohio Valley Tournament:
Scores:

#1 Austin Peay 76, #8 Eastern Kentucky 51
#2 Murray State 77, #7 Tennessee Tech 74
#6 Tennessee State 68, #3 Morehead State 61
#4 UT-Martin 101, #5 Samford 94

Biggest Story: Morehead State loses to Tennessee State because of Bruce Price's 22 points.

Wednesday Preview:

Atlantic Sun Games on Wednesday
2 Jacksonville vs. #7 Mercer
#1 Belmont vs. #8 Campbell

Patriot League Games on Wednesday
#8 Holy Cross at #1 American
#7 Bucknell at #2 Navy
#6 Lafayette at #3 Colgate
#5 Army at #4 Lehigh

Sun Belt Games on Wednesday
#8 New Orleans vs. #9 Denver
#4 Middle Tennessee vs. # 13 Louisiana-Monroe
#5 Louisiana-Lafayette vs. #12 Troy
#6 North Texas vs. #11 Arkansas State
#7 Florida Atlantic vs. #10 Florida International

Best Game on Wednesday: Holy Cross and Bucknell with upset chances against American and Navy. Usually both are tough and run the Patriot League but this year they will need miracle runs after terrible regular seasons. Both will be lucky to be still playing when Thursday rolls around.
